To make honey for hummingbird feeders, follow these steps:
1. Mix sugar and water in a ratio of 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. You need to consider the size of the hummingbird feeder and how often the hummingbirds visit, and then use this to figure out how long the honey water will last. Remember to use plain white sugar, not brown sugar, or sugar substitutes, especially gelatin.
2. Mix the water and sugar. Bring the sugar water to a boil, then remove from the heat, stirring all the time. The sugar will completely dissolve and become clear sugar water. Do not continue to boil the water, as the ratio of sugar water will change as the water evaporates.
3. Let the sugar solution cool. Cover the pot and let the sugar water cool to room temperature. Do not add it to the feeder while it is hot, otherwise the sugar will crystallize. Finally, fill it up or halfway and put it in the hummingbird feeder.
